Paradox of the learned monkey

The paradox of the learned monkey is a theorem according to which a monkey which types indefinitely and randomly on the keyboard of a typewriter will "almost surely" be able to write a given text.

Here, "almost surely" is a mathematical expression with a precise meaning, and the monkey is not really a monkey but a metaphor for an abstract mechanism that produces an endless random sequence of letters.

The probability of a monkey accurately typing a complete work like Shakespeare's Hamlet is almost nil.
